The names of three Kaneland School Board candidates and one U-46 School Board candidate will stay on the April 7 ballot following Monday’s ruling by the Kane County Electoral Board.

The board announced Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, that it has overruled challenges to the filed petitions of U-46 candidate Brian Sauvageau and Kaneland Community Unit School District 302 candidates Jerry Elliott, Dan Nagel and Tony Valente.

The Electoral Board was made up of Kane County Director of Elections Suzanne Fahnestock, Circuit Clerk Chief Deputy Karin Herwick and Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon. Fahnestock was the proxy for Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham and Herwick for Circuit Clerk Thomas Hartwell.

The petition for Elgin School District U-46 candidate Brian Sauvageau was challenged by Mary Shesgreen and Cheryl Brumbaugh-Cayford, according to a Kane County Clerk’s Office press release.

With Sauvengeau’s candidacy, there are nine people vying for four, four-year seats on the U-46 School Board. Two candidates — Kai Rush and Cody Holt — are competing for one, unexpired two-year term.

In the Kaneland School Board race, the petitions of Elliott, Nagel and Valente each were challenged separately by Gale Pavlak, Lynn D. McHenry, Peter Lopatin and Teresa Graue Witt.

Pavlak, Lopatin and Witt are incumbents seeking re-election to the School Board.

Eight candidates are vying for four seats on the Kaneland School Board.
