‘Frost Bite Can Occur in 15 Minutes’ — Another Wind Chill Warning Monday
More bitter cold and dangerous wind chills are slamming Kane County. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory, in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23.
Wind chill values again are expected to reach 20 to 30 degrees below zero.
“Frost bite can occur in 15 to 30 minutes on exposed skin at these wind chill values,” the National Weather Service Chicago says in its advisory. “Extended exposure without proper clothing will increase the risk of hypothermia.”
A Wind Chill Advisory means that the wind will combine with the very cold air to generate low wind chills.
“If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves,” the NWS says.
Based solely on the observation that all but one school district in Kane County cancelled classes due to the cold weather Thursday, and none on Friday, it seems likely schools won’t be closed Monday Feb. 23.
