Indian Trail Bridge Work Resumes Feb. 23; Closure, Detour Set for March 2

Construction will resume on the Indian Trail bridges on Feb. 23 and the bridge will be closed for a final push of construction work starting March 2, the city of Aurora announced in a Thursday press release.

The Indian Trail Bridge reconstruction project is part of the city’s aggressive bridge reconstruction program aimed at modernizing the city’s infrastructure and improving safety.

The bridge over the Fox River will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, March 2. Traffic will be detoured to the Illinois Avenue and Sullivan Road Bridges, and message boards will alert drivers to the impending closure.

The reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed by November.

The city reopened one lane of traffic in each direction over the holidays and kept the lanes open during what we hope will end up being the harshest period of the winter months.

The Indian Trail Bridges, the longest crossings over the Fox River in Aurora, closed in June 2014 for the $9.8 million reconstruction project.

In addition to the replacement and widening of both the east and west crossings, the project will include improved drainage along with new curbs, gutters, wider sidewalks, parapet railings, LED street lighting, guard rails and landscaping.

The project is 80 percent federally funded, with the remaining 20 percent paid through city of Aurora funds obtained from Motor Fuel Taxes.
