KC Bar Association Collecting Supplies for Our Troops in Harm’s Way

Volunteers from the Kane County Bar Association will be at the South Elgin Jewel-Osco, 375 South Randall Road, South Elgin, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, collecting supplies for our troops serving overseas in harm’s way. Support for our troops tends to wane after the holidays, and current inventory of some items is critically low.

The items will be packed in 25-pound boxes and shipped by Naperville based Operation Support Our Troops – America. There are presently 1,000 troops on the OSOT-America comfort package waiting list.

Bar association volunteers will hand shoppers a list as they enter the store. Shoppers will be asked to purchase items from the list and then drop them off as they leave, and Jewel-Osco will order additional inventory of the items to have on hand.

If anyone would like a comfort package sent to a friend or loved one currently serving overseas, visit the OSOT-America web site. (Please note that an APO or FP address will be needed along with the expected date of return from deployment.)

About Operation Support Our Troops – America

Our mission is to support the morale and well-being of American forces by providing comfort, resources and education to them and their families both while they are deployed in harm’s way and after their return. As a volunteer based non-profit organization, we provide the opportunity for our community members to express their appreciation and also offer support for our troops.

Engaged in the longest war of our country’s history and with our servicemen and women completing multiple tours of duty, we are committed to showing them that “We Have NOT Forgotten.” Visit Operation Support Out Troops — America.

About Kane County Bar Association – KCBA Cares

KCBA Cares is a monthly volunteer opportunity headed by Vince Mancini, who coordinates with various non-profit organizations to provide assistance with projects. Our volunteers have worked with the Operation Support Our Troops – America, Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry, the Salvation Army, the Northern Illinois Food Bank, Feeding Greater Elgin, and Lazarus House. We are always looking for other agencies to support, so if you are involved with a non- profit organization that needs occasional help, please contact KCBA Executive Director Jan Wade, at director@kanecountybar.org.
