9th Annual Fiddle Fest

You’re Invited to Join Friday’s 10th Annual Fiddle Fest — Featuring The UnBande

Fiddle Fest 2014

Fiddle Fest is a chance for students to play alongside some of Kane County’s most talented musicians.

In the old Hee Haw television show of decades past, there was a feature called Pickin’ and Grinnin’ in which some amazing banjo and guitar players — most often and most notably Buck Owens and Roy Clark — would punctuate some outstanding string pickin’ with some generally lame jokes.

Well, if you like great string music of all varieties and don’t really care if there are corny one-liners to go with, you’re invited to an event Friday where you can listen to some fantastic strumming, picking and fiddling — and even play along if you like.

At 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, students, parents, relatives, teachers and Kane County community members will join together to perform a variety of music, including folk fiddling, for the St. Charles School District 303’a 10th Annual Fiddle Fest. The event has grown to more than 300 performers and is an anticipated musical opportunity for students and community members to make music together.

Anyone who plays guitar, banjo, mandolin or a string instrument is invited to join the fun. If you are interested and need music, please email Rita Borkowski, orchestra director, for details.

This year, St. Charles District 303 is excited to announce guest performers for the event, the Chicago-based sophisticated chamber-jazz quartet, The UnBande. A fresh collaboration of unlikely instrumentation and unexpected stylistic forays, The UnBande was created by Hollywood studio musician Danny Seidenberg and features two violas, cello and guitar.

Crazy classical crossover, rockin’ pop, swingin’ jazz, original compositions, and wild improvisation, but also a rich and sonorous concoction with a true chamber music voice. Playing alongside Danny Seidenberg is long time pop and folk violist Daryl Silberman, noted Chicago freelance cellist Mathew Agnew, and young guitar phenomenon Matt Karnatz.
