Burlington’s Long-Awaited Plank Road Work Starts April 6
The long-anticipated Plank Road realignment is about to begin.
The Kane County Division of Transportation announced Tuesday that traffic will be temporarily reduced to one lane during the daytime hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a portion of Plank Road about one-half mile east of the intersection with Burlington Road starting the week of April 6 through April 10, 2015, weather permitting, to allow construction crews room to install new storm sewer pipes.
Additionally, portions of Burlington Road near the intersection of Plank Road will be temporarily reduced to one lane during daytime hours starting the week of April 6 through April 18, 2015, weather permitting, to conduct the same type of storm sewer work.
Roadway flaggers will be on site to direct traffic thru the construction work zone, one direction at a time, which is expected to cause temporary delays to vehicles travelling in the area.
The public is advised to increase travel times, be alert to construction activity, obey the flaggers and exercise caution while proceeding through the work zones.
The Plank Road groundbreaking took place last August. This is the beginning of work for the 2015 construction season.
During the groundbreaking, the construction cost for the improvement was estimated at $4.6 million and completion of the project was expected in the fall of 2015.
“Though sketches on coffee table napkins may be older, this project has been in the planning stages at the Division of Transportation since the mid-1980s” read a statement from Village President Bob Walsh.
“This project will remove the jog created 164 years ago, return East Plank Road to the quiet neighborhood street it once was, provide a safe thoroughfare for travelers on Plank Road, especially at its intersection with Main Street, and create economic development opportunities that will benefit both Burlington and Kane County,” he said.
