One of the most well-received Kane County Recycles events of the year will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 14, at 540 S. Randall in St. Charles.

“Please do not arrive early,” Kane County Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland said.

That’s a pretty good indicator of how popular these events are becoming and how much Kane County folks value this free service.

Document shredding is one of the big draws, perhaps because so many people get confidential documents through the mail, and they are looking for a responsible and trustworthy service to do the shredding.

Kane County Recycles asks that you bring your confidential documents in paper bags or boxes, and the limit boxes per vehicle. Another important proviso is that this service is for residents only.

“No documents from businesses, please,” Jarland said.

Liquid latex paint is also one of the popularly recycled items at this event, and it’s the only item that has a recycling fee* per container. It is $2 per pint, $3.50 per gallon, and $10 per 5-gallon bucket. Latex paint is non-toxic but difficult to dispose of normally because you have to dry it out before placing it in your landfill trash. However, it can be easily recycled into new products with no drying out necessary! No oil based product will be accepted.

If you’d like to bring in your old paint cans, please bring cash or a check.

Recycle electronics, such as computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size or age), stereos, cell phones, microwaves and Christmas lights, are recycled at this event, as well. Kane County also accepts books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling.

The county does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances, such as washers and refrigerators.
