Aurora police are continue to investigate a Tuesday afternoon crash in which an 89-year-old Carpentersville man was killed.

The crash occurred at about 1:20 p.m., at Eola and Diehl Roads on Aurora’s Far East Side in the DuPage County section of the city. Upon investigation it was learned that the deceased man, Carlos Villegas, of the 300 block of Sedgewick St., Carpentersville, was driving his 2005 Lincoln LS west on Diehl Road, when he blew the stoplight at Eola, and collided with a northbound 1999 International Tractor Semi-Truck in the intersection.

The force of the crash pushed the car across the intersection, while the semi, which was driven by a 42-year old-Aurora man, continued north, struck and went over the median curb, then hit a 2014 Ford Focus driven by a 45-year-old Aurora woman. That vehicle was southbound on Eola waiting to turn east onto Diehl.

Villegas and his 87-year-old wife, Dorothy Villegas, the sole passenger in the Lincoln, had to be extricated by Aurora firefighters. They were taken to separate Aurora hospitals. Carlos Villegas was pronounced deceased at 2:19 p.m. and Dorothy Villegas was admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both of the other drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles and both refused medical attention at the scene. Everyone apparently was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and there was no indications of alcohol or drugs.

No citations will be issued.

The roadway was closed for about six hours while Aurora police traffic investigators reconstructed the crash.
