The flu bug is back.

Kane County’s influenza report for the week of March 8 to March 14 shows a 30 percent increase over the previous week and a trend that’s been on the upswing for the past three weeks.

Much like the winter weather in Kane County, the flu seems to not want to give up just yet.

Maybe of most interesting statistic in this week’s report is that 92.5 percent of the 159 positive tests were for Influenza B, which is commonly referred to as the flu.

According to eHow, Influenza B is an airborne virus that infects the lungs, nose and throat. Over-the-counter medication can reduce symptoms. Sufferers are also advised to drink plenty of liquids and get plenty of rest. According to Medicine Plus Medical Dictionary, common influenza B symptoms include bodyaches, chills, dizziness, flushed face, headache, lack of energy, nausea and vomiting.

The peak for the 2014-15 year came in the week of Dec. 20, 2014. The percent of positive rapid influenza tests has begun to move up since the week of Feb. 14.
