Rare First-Degree Murder Charge Leveled Against Teenager After Friday Shooting

Aurora Police have secured a first degree murder charge through the Kane County State’s Attorney on a 16 year old Aurora boy in connection with the fatal shooting of another teen Friday afternoon. Police are not releasing the name of the defendant due to his age.

The victim, Gianni Aguirre of the 100 block of Bluff Street, was gunned down at about 1 p.m. as he stood outside of his home after being approached on foot, allegedly by the 16 year old who was with another 17 year old male. Aguirre and the 16 year old apparently exchanged words which led to the 16 year old allegedly producing a handgun and firing multiple shots at Aguirre and hitting him a single time in the chest. The two suspects then ran from the scene.

About six minutes after the shooting, Aurora Police arrested the pair without incident about two blocks from the crime scene in the area of Lincoln Avenue just north of Seminary Street. A gun was recovered in that same area.

The 17 year old who was with the alleged gunman was released without charges after detectives learned he apparently had no knowledge of the impending incident and that he ran out of fear. The shooting appears to be gang related.

Police are crediting numerous witnesses who came forward and supplied information that resulted in the quick arrests.

Aguirre was pronounced dead at an Aurora hospital shortly after arrival. An autopsy is pending at the Kane County Coroner’s office.

The 16 year old is being held in the Kane County Youth Home.
