Section of Fox River Trail to Temporarily Close for Bridge Removal
A section of the Fox River Trail between East Dundee and Elgin will be temporarily closed for two weeks, to allow for removal of five older bridges that are no longer needed.
Work on the Fox River Trail between Richardson Avenue in East Dundee and Cedar Avenue in Elgin begins Monday, March 16. Signs to notify trail users of the temporary closure have been placed on both ends of the project.
The bridges to be removed date back to their former time as part of a railroad line. The Forest Preserve District of Kane County will replace the bridges with large metal culverts. The trail section will then be repaved.
The Forest Preserve District asks trail users to be mindful of the closure and aware of the potential for machinery and construction in the area.
The Fox River Trail is expected to reopen to the public by Monday, March 30, barring any weather-related delays.
