1-Day Lane Reduction on Burlington Road Will Help Traffic Flow in Future
In order for traffic on Kane County arteries to flow more freely in the future, Kane County drivers on Burlington Road will experience one day’s worth of slightly clogged arteries on Burlington Road.
On Thursday, April 23, 2015, storm sewer work associated with construction of the Arterial Operations Center building expansion will be performed on Burlington Road (just northwest of Empire Road) in Campton Hills. The work will reduce traffic on Burlington Road to one lane in alternating directions from approximately 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The work is expected to be completed in one day. Please reduce speed through the construction zone and watch for construction signage and flaggers.
The $1.6 million Arterial Operations Center is an innovative upgrade in the Kane County Division of Transportation’s capacity to monitor and help improve traffic flow throughout Kane County. A control room with 10 monitors for camera feeds will allow KDOT employees to see what’s happening at intersections throughout the county. From the center, staff can diagnose problems such as a malfunctioning traffic signal or sensor, help monitor snow removal efforts and provide real-time traffic-flow information that officials can use in short-term and long-term decision-making.
Eighty percent of the funding for the construction cost will come from federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds and federal Surface Transportation Program Rural funds. The remaining 20 percent is funded locally.
