11½-Year Sentence in Meth-Charge Guilty Plea
An Aurora man is headed to prison for being in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine.
Jaime N. Vasquez, 32, of the 500 block of East Broadway, Aurora, on April 16, 2015, agreed to a sentence of 11½ years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class X felony.
Associate Judge Clint Hull accepted the plea.
Prosecutors presented evidence that at about 10:45 a.m. time Nov. 12, 2012, Vasquez was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by a Kane County Sheriff’s deputy along Interstate 88 for a traffic violation. A search of the vehicle revealed
580 grams of crystal methamphetamine valued at approximately $45,000. Vasquez acknowledged he was transporting the drugs to Minnesota from Aurora.
According to Illinois law, Vasquez is eligible for day for day sentencing. He receives credit for at least 886 days served in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $250,000 bail.
“Crystal meth is a harmful and dangerous drug, and I applaud the efforts to keep it from taking hold in our community. Thanks to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office for its continued drug interdiction efforts,” Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Bridget Sabbia.
