Best Summer Day Camp Ever? FPDKC Sends Kids on a Daily Adventure

Hey, Kane County parents! If you’re looking for a summer option for your kids that’s close to home, that’s well-run, safe and secure, that maybe is going to teach the kids a little something along with providing tons of fun, don’t send your child to the same-old summer camp; send them on an outdoor adventure with the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.

And you’ll save a lot of money if you act quickly: The early-bird registration deadline is April 15.

There’s more to explore during Forest Preserve District summer camps for preschoolers through sixth graders. All camps are held at Creek Bend Nature Center located at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.

For preschoolers, the district offers “Little Sprouts Camp.”

Introduce your child to the wonders of nature in this camp specifically for kids age 4-6 who are about to enter kindergarten. We’ll tell nature stories, play games and go on short explorations into the nearby woods. We’ll also discover butterflies, wildflowers, trees and more, along the way. Activities will be held both inside Creek Bend Nature Center, and outdoors in LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve. “Little Sprouts Camp” is offered June 8-12; from 9-11 a.m. Early-bird registration (before April 15) is $85 per child. After April 15, registration is $110 per child.

For elementary school-age children, the district offers “Week in the Woods” summer day camps.

During these five-day nature camps, kids explore the woods and fields with our naturalist staff.  Camp is offered the following weeks: June 15-19; June 22-26; June 29-July 3; July 6-10; July 13-17; and July 20-24.Through hikes, nature games and activities, kids discover native animals and plants in their habitats and learn the importance of these living things in the web of life. Each day is sure to bring a new adventure! Early-bird registration (before April 15) is $100 per child. After April 15, registration is $125 per child.

For those looking for an early-evening option for their child, “Twilight Camp” allows kids to discover a whole new world of wildlife.

During this evening summer camp, we’ll learn about the native animals that are out and about at dusk. Camp activities include hikes with the naturalists through the woods and prairie, games and stories. This camp is for children entering grades 3 through 6. Camp will be held from July 27-31 from 7-9 p.m. A special family night on July 31 include a campfire, s’mores, storytelling, a night hike and stargazing. Early-bird registration (before April 15) is $85 per child. After April 15, registration is $110 per child.
