Debra Nawrocki Is Elgin’s New CFO

city of Elgin Logo1The city of Elgin decided to hire from within and chose former Finance Manager Debra Nawrocki as its new chief financial officer.

Nawrocki is a Certified Public Accountant with 30 years of experience in accounting, auditing and financial management, including a solid background specifically with the city of Elgin. Not only has Nawrocki worked for Elgin as its finance manager for the past three years, but since June 2014, she has taken on the additional responsibilities for all the city’s financial operations as interim CFO.

“Debra’s willingness to step up and take the helm of the city’s finance department exemplifies the leadership characteristics that we look for in a senior management team member,” said Sean Stegall, city manager. “Her vast financial knowledge, abilities in budget development and reporting, and successful experience leading the department for the past year, only served to solidify our belief that she was the best candidate for the job.”

Nawrocki officially assumes the role of CFO today (April 20, 2015).

“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve in this capacity,” Nawrocki said. “I am honored to work alongside the city council and city staff members to continue the tradition of strong government and responsible financial practices that are an integral part of this city.”

The last 20 years of Nawrocki’s 30 years as a financial professional have been in local government accounting and senior-level financial management. Prior to being hired by the city of Elgin, Nawrocki served as the director of finance for Schaumburg Township Library District for 18 years. From 1985 until 1994, Nawrocki worked as the sales and marketing controller for ServiceMaster in Downers Grove.

Nawrocki received a bachelor’s of science in accounting from Northern Illinois University and earned her CPA in 1984. She is a member of the Illinois CPA Society, Illinois Government Finance Officers Association and Government Finance Officers Association.
