Elgin Man Pleads Guilty to Sexually Assaulting Child in 2010
An Elgin man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child he knew.
Alejandro Avelino-Consela, 49, last address of the 500 block of Locust Street, Elgin, IL, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony.
Circuit Judge Susan Clancy Boles accepted the plea, and set Avelino-Consela’s next court appearance for 1 p.m. June 12, 2015, in Courtroom 305 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Avelino-Consela faces a prison sentence of between six and 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In addition to the prison term, Avelino-Consela must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
Prosecutors presented evidence that between Jan. 1, 2010, and Nov. 22, 2010, Avelina-Consela sexually assaulted the victim, whom he knew. The victim was younger than 18 at the time.
Avelina-Consela remains in custody at the jail, where he has been held since his arrest in March 2014 in lieu of $300,000 bail.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Reagan Pittman.
