Gov. Bruce Rauner will hold a press conference at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of the Kane County Government Center as part of the governor’s six-day “turnaround tour.”

The Governor’s Office announced Friday that Rauner would be traveling throughout the state to communicate the “Illinois Turnaround” agenda, which is aimed at “empowering voters and more local control,” according to a packet on the Illinois government website.

A Kane County stop was confirmed on Monday.

A detailed schedule has not been released from the Governor’s Office, but Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen said late Monday evening that the primary objective will be to “find positive, common ground.”

“There are so many things we can agree on,” Lauzen said. “We know that there are big problems facing the state of Illinois, and they’re going to require big solutions. Rather than running off and hiding from those problems, we can use this opportunity to find places where we agree and emphasize the positive.”

No one at the Kane County Board Office could say for certain when the last time a standing governor had come to visit, but staff members said they could not recall any Illinois governor coming to the Government Center at any time in the last decade.

Lauzen said some parts of the Illinois Turnaround agenda don’t have much to do with county government, but “that doesn’t mean we should retire from the conversation about reform in Springfield.”

“I hope that we can demonstrate our strength, intelligence and respect for each other by engaging in a discussion that explores the common ground, where we can generate a consensus among ourselves and participate in making things better for everyone,” Lauzen said.

Lauzen said the first step for Kane County is simply to listen to what the governor has to say.

In Rauner’s Illinois Turnaround summary, he emphasizes three talking-point “packages” for consideration by Illinois voters: Economic Growth and Jobs, Student Careers and Success, and Taxpayer Empowerment and Government Reform.
