You’ve heard of housewarming parties? Well, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, we’ll see a historic-schoolhouse–moving party that will require some temporary road closures in the Hampshire area.

An 1800s-vintage schoolhouse is being moved from Rutland Forest Preserve to a Resource Bank location in Hampshire.

The bank’s website encourages people to visit the historic Quilhot Schoolhouse (pictured here) at the bank’s Shabonna Branch, and the bank apparently is doing something similar with the “Old Eakin School House — Rutland Township Hall.”

Kane County Forest Preserve Executive Director Monica A. Meyers said Monday that the one-room schoolhouse had been used for a long time by Rutland’s Genealogical Society as a place to do family-history research. But with the advent of computer genealogy searches, the facility was used less often. Enter Resource Bank, which Meyers said is moving the historic schoolhouse next to a Hampshire location — a literally historic win-win.

Meyers said the Forest Preserve District deeded the schoolhouse to the village of Hampshire, which in turn has made arrangements with the bank.

“It’s a really neat, public-private kind of thing,” Meyers said. “The bank is paying for everything.”

The Kane County Division of Transportation is letting people know that on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, portions of Big Timber Road, Harmony Road, Allen Road, and Walker Road in Hampshire Township will be closed to accommodate the school house move. The closure will begin at 9 a.m. at the Rutland Forest Preserve (on Big Timber Road about 1 1⁄4 mile east of IL Route 47) and proceed west along the route indicated on the attached map.

The road closure will be facilitated by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and should not exceed 90 minutes in duration.

In case of a cancellation due to inclement weather on Wednesday, April 15, the house move would be rescheduled to 9 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015.
