IDOT: Intermittent Closures of I-88 at Route 59 Start Thursday, April 16
Surprise!
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Wednesday afternoon that there will be intermittent overnight closures along Reagan Memorial Tollway (Interstate 88) in Naperville beginning, weather permitting, Thursday, April 16. This is part of the on-going roadway reconstruction project on Illinois Route 59 at Interstate 88.
In order to complete the work, I-88 will be closed for 15 minutes at a time between midnight and 5 a.m. After every 15 minute full closure, I-88 will be opened to traffic for 15 minutes before the next closure begins. All lanes will be open continuously beginning, weather permitting, on Monday, April 20.
The on-going roadway reconstruction project on Illinois Route 59 at Interstate 88 includes the construction of two new bridges for IL 59 over I-88. One bridge has been completed and the other bridge is currently under construction. For the bridge under construction, the abutments and center pier have been installed and the new precast bridge beams need to be lifted into place over I-88.
When completed, the reconstruction project will ultimately provide a better roadway facility to the public with improved safety features, additional roadway capacity, reduced crash potential, and improved roadway geometrics that will facilitate traffic flow and relieve congestion. In addition to serving the motoring public, the proposed project will help meet the existing and future needs of the adjacent communities.
The entire reconstruction project is expected to be completed by September 30, 2015.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
