IDOT: ‘Major Traffic Stage Change’ at Route 59 Starts April 29

Here’s an IDOT news item that’s not in Kane County exactly, but probably an area where a lot of us drive.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a major traffic stage change will begin along Illinois Route 59 in Naperville and Aurora starting, weather permitting, Wednesday, April 29. The stage change is part of the on-going roadway reconstruction project along IL 59.

In order to complete the work, a new traffic pattern will be installed on northbound IL 59 with traffic reduced from two lanes to one lane from Jefferson Avenue/Liberty Street to North Aurora Road. The traffic configuration on southbound IL 59 will remain unchanged.

The project will provide a more efficient roadway facility to the public with improved safety features, additional roadway capacity, reduced crash potential, and improved roadway geometrics that will facilitate traffic flow and relieve congestion. In addition to serving the motoring public, the proposed project will help meet the existing and future needs of the adjacent communities.

The project will be complete by the end of September.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
