I went online about an hour ago and donated to the Kane County / Fairdale relief fund.

Speaking purely as a Kane County resident and student of electronic media, I found the process convenient, quick, intuitive and professionally executed. I would recommend it to my friends — including all of my friends on Kane County Connects — as a way to make a much-needed donation to local disaster relief.

The fund was set up by Kane County Office of Community Management Director Don Bryant and is one of two easy ways Kane County residents can make monetary donations to help the residents of Fairdale in nearby DeKalb County, whose small town was devastated by a tornado on Thursday, April 9, 2015.

To contribute to the relief fund, Kane County residents can send a check, money order or cash to: Kane County Treasurer Fairdale Relief Fund, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, IL 60134. The funds are being collected by the Kane County Treasurer’s Office and all proceeds will go to the relief fund for Fairdale residents.

Bryant also has set up a Kane County / Fairdale Relief GoFundMe page, where residents can contribute to the relief effort online.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Kane County residents are known for their desire to help their neighbors in times of need. On April 9th the community of Fairdale, in neighboring DeKalb County, was ground zero for one of the biggest tornadoes ever to strike an Illinois community.

In an effort to help those who experienced this devastating tornado the County of Kane has established the Kane County / Fairdale Relief Fund. Donations to this fund will be used to help families in Fairdale recover from this disaster.

Other Relief Efforts

The village of Kirkland website also has several options to volunteer and donate.

Cubs fans entering Wriggley Field on Tuesday made donations to Fairdale and Rochelle tornado victims. Fans who couldn’t make it to Tuesday night’s game can still donate at Cubs.com/give through Sunday, April 19.

Donations can be dropped off between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at either Elgin Fire Station 1 at 550 Summit Street or Elgin Fire Station 2 at 650 Big Timber Road. Donations will be accepted through Tuesday, April 14.
