Applications from Kane County residents interested in the next available Kane County appointments to the Fox Valley Park District will be accepted at the Kane County Board Office through May 1, 2015. A formal vetting process by a special advisory panel is scheduled to begin May 2, 2015, and selections presented to the full County Board on May 12, 2015.

Until the consolidated election in 2017, Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen has the responsibility to make appointments to the District and fill the vacancies with the advice and consent of the Kane County Board. The Fox Valley Park District is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees. County Board chairmen appoint the board in the counties that have a proportionate share of the population in the district.

Presently, the Kane County Board chair appoints six members and the DuPage County Board chair appoints one member. Kane County is neither the employer nor joint employer of Park District personnel but is the appointment agency with executive oversight.

Each Board member is equally responsible for seeing that the parks are properly managed in terms of planning, policy and decisions upon which the board has reached agreement in a regular or special meeting. The members of the Board of Trustees are lay persons appointed to sit as members of the Board of Trustees and act on behalf of the welfare and to the benefit of the people in the district.

More information can be found at foxvalleyparkdistrict.org.

Applications can be submitted in person, by mail, FAX or sent electronically to Kane County Government Center, 719 Batavia Avenue, Building A, County Board Office, 3rd Floor, Geneva, Illinois 60134. For more information, call 630-232-5930 or email clauzen@kaneboard.org.

Starting in 2017, the Fox Valley Park District will elect seven commissioners from three two-member districts, and one commissioner will be elected at large. Four commissioners will be elected to serve a four-year term, while three commissioners will serve a two-year term with four-year terms thereafter. The Board of Trustees appoints the Executive Director, the attorney of the Park District and the auditors. The Board approves all policy decisions.

The Fox Valley Park District Board of Trustees meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora, unless otherwise noted, and in accordance with the Open Meetings Act. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Agendas and board packets are posted here and available publicly on the Thursday before each month’s meeting.
