Yellow-Arrow Upgrades for 16 Randall Road Intersections Start April 13
Kane County’s yellow-arrow traffic-signal improvements for Randall Road are ready to be put in place.
Starting the week of April 13, traffic signal equipment upgrades are scheduled for 16 intersections along Randall Road from Fabyan Parkway to Silver Glen Road, weather permitting. The work — which includes the addition of safety-enhancing yellow arrow signals — is anticipated to be completed in late fall of this year, and will be conducted in two stages.
Stage 1 work, which will include upgrades to sidewalk, pedestrian crossings, and new traffic signal foundations should take about three to five working days at each intersection and may result in temporary daytime lane closures and disruptions of traffic at the intersection. Work will be done from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting, and will start at Glen Eagle Boulevard / Randall Road progressing north to Silver Glen Road / Randall Road intersection.
Below are the 16 Randall Road intersections listed in the anticipated order for traffic-signal upgrades. The order is subject to modification and is for information purposes:
- Glen Eagle Drive
- Christina Lane
- Fargo Boulevard
- Keslinger Road
- Williamsburg Avenue
- Bricher Road
- IL Route 38
- Prairie Street
- Oak Street
- IL Route 64
- Dean Street
- Red Haw Lane
- Crane Road
- Red Gate Road
- Bolcum Road
- Silver Glen Road
The second stage of work, which is anticipated to start in late summer, will involve the removal of existing traffic signal mast arms and the installation of a yellow flashing phase signal head to the existing traffic signals at all locations. This work will require the temporary shutdown of traffic signals with the control of the intersections replaced by four-way stop signs for about four to six hours per intersection. During this work phase, traffic traveling through the intersections will experience longer-than-normal traffic delays.
Additional press releases will be provided to the public before the second phase begins warning them of this upcoming work.
Motorists should expect delays during the first stage of the work and are encouraged to pay attention to temporary lanes closures and flaggers around the work area. Motorists may want to consider seeking alternate routes during the second stage portion of the traffic signal upgrades.
The $1.7 million project is primarily funded with federal safety funds with Kane County’s anticipated cost participation at $316,462. The work will include the installation of flashing yellow arrow traffic signals, improved traffic signal head placement and visibility and driver-feedback speed limit signs. The flashing yellow arrow lights are a “tried and proven to reduce collisions and increase safety at all locations where they have been implemented,” according to the KDOT website.
