The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Friday that a major traffic stage change has begun along North Aurora Road at Illinois Route 59 in Naperville. The stage change is part of the ongoing roadway reconstruction project along IL 59.

In order to complete the work, a new traffic pattern will be installed on North Aurora Road with traffic reduced to one lane in each direction. Both eastbound and westbound directions of North Aurora Road will have a dedicated left turn lane at IL Route 59. The traffic configuration on IL Route 59 will remain unchanged.

The project will provide a more efficient roadway facility to the public with improved safety features, additional roadway capacity, reduced crash potential, and improved roadway geometrics that will facilitate traffic flow and relieve congestion. In addition to serving the motoring public, the proposed project will help meet the existing and future needs of the adjacent communities.

The project will be complete by the end of September.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
