Kane County Engineer and Division of Transportation Director Carl Schoedel’s outstanding community involvement has been nationally recognized by the American Public Works Association.

The Community Involvement Award, bestowed to Carl by the APWA, is an acknowledgement from the members of that organization across the United States and Canada of his leadership in encouraging public trust in public works professionals through active and meaningful community involvement.

“We are truly honored to have someone leading our county in the transportation arena, who is as committed to their community as Mr. Schoedel,” Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen said.  “We are thankful to the APWA for recognizing his service and compassion for his community, while we recognize him for his outstanding contributions to the people of Kane County, both professionally and personally.”

The award will be presented in August at the 2015 International Public Works Congress and Exposition in Phoenix, AZ.

Schoedel also recently was awarded the “Children’s Champion Couple” award, along with his wife, Lisa, from CASA Kane County, a volunteer non-profit organization that advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system. He has raised awareness and support of the organization through the involvement of friends and colleagues in the group’s mission, and now sits on the Board of Directors for CASA Kane County.

His other philanthropic endeavors have included raising money and awareness for the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Naperville Area Humane Society, and providing two substantial academic scholarships to IUPUI since 2003.

Schoedel joined Kane County in 1997 and was appointed county engineer in 2003.
