Lazarus House in St. Charles has received a State of Illinois Senate recognition award for its efforts in the fight against human trafficking and for its participation in the Human Trafficking Awareness Day at the State Capital on April 28, 2015.

Throughout the state of Illinois, many organizations are working to shed light on the horrific toll that human trafficking takes on a person’s life. On April 28, 2015, state Sen. Karen McConnaughay and state Sen. Toi Hutchinson recognized these organizations by honoring them with an achievement award.

These organizations were able to discuss ways in which to further spread awareness and visibility of this important issue throughout the state and beyond.

Lazarus House is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization serving persons connected to mid-Kane County who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and food insecure.  Last fiscal year, Lazarus House provided shelter to 307 individuals, including 57 children, 94 women and 156 men. It provided 17,481 nights of service and approximately 53,000 meals. The Ourtreach department at Lazarus House also provided rental assistance to 50 households to help prevent homelessness.
