Remember to Fly Your Flags at Half Staff Monday
Just as a reminder, all persons or entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act are to fly the flags at half staff on Memorial Day.
Please lower the United States flags and the State flags at all buildings occupied by your agency’s personnel from sunrise to noon Monday, May 25, 2015.
We should already be flying flags at half staff in honor of U.S. Marine Corps Cp. Sara Medina, one of the six U.S. Marines who died May 12 in a helicopter crash eight miles north of Charikot, Nepal.
For most homeowners who don’t have flagpoles, this is a gentle reminder to display your American flag on Memorial Day.
To learn more about how to properly fly the American flag, please see this PDF from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Flag Honors
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has ordered that all persons or entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act are to fly the flag of the United States of America and Illinois flags at half staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of the funeral of every fallen Illinois soldier and the two days preceding that day.
