Sadly, 56-Year-Old Aurora Man Dies Following Sunday Shooting

A 56-year-old Aurora man has succumbed to injuries he received in a weekend shooting.

Darnell K. Eaton of the 1300 block of East New York Street was pronounced deceased at 8:39 p.m., Tuesday, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds he sustained early Sunday morning outside of his home.

Aurora Police Department LogoAt about 2:05 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a shots-fired call with two people hit, and found Eaton and a 58-year-old male inside of his residence. It appears both men were shot shortly after they exited a rear door of the home by someone standing in the northwest corner of the back yard. They then ran back into the house after being shot.

A male Hispanic in his late teens or early 20s was seen running north from the scene right after the shooting. He entered a light-colored pickup or SUV that was parked on Calhoun Street which then left the area northbound. The man with Eaton continues to be treated for gunshot wounds at an Aurora hospital.

At this time, investigators do not believe either Eaton or the other man who was shot were the intended targets. No motive has yet been established.
