Tomato Day 2015: Give a Child a Seed and Watch It Grow

Tomato Day 2015: Give a Child a Seed and Watch It Grow

You say ToMAYto Day, I say TomAHto Day.

Let’s not call the whole thing off, because it’s coming May 16 to Aurora, and it looks like a lot of fun.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 11.06.58 AMAurora’s Farmers Market, Illinois’ oldest market, has been a mainstay for the past 100-plus years. The market’s slogan, “Eat Fresh, Buy Local, and Be Well”, along with its Healthy Living Initiative,  “Growing a Healthy Life,” are the catalyst for “Tomato Day” on Saturday, May 16, 2015.

The concept is simple, give a child a tomato seedling to plant in a container or yard, encourage them to tend it, watch it grow, blossom and bear fruit. The rewards to the child are long lasting and the countless benefits of gardening are life changing, not only for the kids, but for entire families as well as future generations.
