Weekend Markets Set to Open in Historic Downtown Dundee
Two popular markets return to East Dundee’s Depot on River Street with the opening of the Depot Market from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, and the Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 10. Both markets are crowd pleasers offering different opportunities to shop locally through Oct. 31.
Celebrating its 26th year, the Depot Market features vendors selling a wide variety of items such as art, jewelry and collectibles. Throughout the summer, it will be complimented with three downtown historical walks on June 13, July 11 and Aug. 8. On July 25, and Aug. 22, the Dundee Township Library will be presenting talks on genealogy and how to discover your family history. Back by popular demand, MIR Appraisal services will be providing two antique appraisal faires on June 27 and Sept. 19.
The Farmers Market features only food and horticultural products sold by local farmers, producers and businesses. It offers plants and vegetables; infused vinegars and olive oils; organic fresh-baked breads, sweets, pretzels, muffins and crackers; cut flowers, gourmet sweet treats and goodies, and natural soaps, skincare and soy candles, artisan cheeses, farm-raised fish and locally-grown mushrooms, popcorn, pizza and bbq sandwiches provided by the local restaurants. On Sunday, May 10, Home Depot will be giving away children’s take and make it wooden toy kits Along with the various vendors, the Farmers Market offers live acoustical music, a chalk artist, dog-friendly drinking fountains, raffles and monthly community lunches.
The first scheduled community lunch will be on Sunday, June 7, and will feature a local favorite, Ruthella’s New Orleans-style Crawfish. We’ll have an official ribbon-cutting to commemorate Chef Cass’ new food truck.
With its planned downtown revitalization efforts and recent construction, on the last Sunday each month the Farmers Market will provide an opportunity to talk with village trustees and view the current plans. Walking tours will also be available for those interested.
The Dundee weekend markets are centrally located next to the Fox River Trail in the downtown area and the Visitor’s Center offers public restrooms and light refreshments. It’s a great place to stop and shop while enjoying a bike ride.
“East Dundee is a small, historic downtown where everyone is welcome. The markets allow folks to come for a stroll, take in the various vendors and just relax for a few hours. Our focus for the Farmers market is to support good, quality farmers and vendors that have an ability to offer a nice variety of locally-grown products and services that are food-related,” expressed Karen Blair, Marketing Director for the Village of East Dundee.
Free parking is available and markets are open rain or shine.
