5 Awesome Ways to Spend Father’s Day in Kane County 2015
Father’s Day is coming up fast, and if you’re looking for fun things to do with dad on Sunday, here are just a few suggestions, courtesy of Kane County Connects.
1. Take Your Dad to Swedish Day!
This is an awesome choice, especially if you’ve got a little Swedish heritage, and where I’m likely to be at some point in time on June 21.
Not to be confused with Swedish Days, the rollicking chamber of commerce extravaganza coming next week in downtown Geneva, Swedish Day is the authentic Svenska Dagarna at Good Templar Park. Swedish pancakes, herring breakfast, maypole dancing, Swedish music and entertainment, tours of the cottages and Viking ship — we just love this event. This is the 105th Swedish Day celebration at Good Templar Park in Geneva and the 90th birthday of Good Templar Park!

2. Take Dad Out to the Ballgame
Is there anything more American or more perfect than taking your dad to a ballgame? For gosh sakes, let’s go!
Picnic buffets, “Catch with Dad” on field and Sunday Funday entertainment are all part of a special day. I’m getting all verklempt thinking that you can actually “play catch with dad” on the field. And for the record, I’m so proud of Shawn Touney and the Cougars folks for actually saying “play catch” in their promotions, rather than “have a catch,” which is just plain wrong (but still manages to get me misty-eyed) when I watch Field of Dreams.

3. Clang, Clang, Clang Goes the Trolley
Of course, I’m old enough to be familiar with Judy Garland singing those lyrics in Meet Me in St. Louis. If your dad is, too, he might enjoy a free ride on the Fox River Trolley Museum’s antique trolleys. Fathers and grandfathers ride free!

4. Father’s Day at Blackberry Farm
There’s been a little flooding of late, but if the weather holds, Blackberry Farm is an idyllic place to take your dad. Blackberry Farm is a living history museum where pioneer life is re-created through educational demonstrations and hands-on fun. Admission to Blackberry Farm includes unlimited rides on the train, hay wagon, pedal tractors, paddle boats, carousel and ponies.

5. Celebrate Your Favorite Pollinator!
Hey, dad pollinated you at some point, so there’s no reason not to celebrate here in Kane County. The county’s Forest Preserve District has a fun Pollinator Week program planned at Dick Young Forest Preserve. Butterflies, bees and beetles are just a few of the kinds of pollinators we’re sure to find. You’ll use sweep nets and bug boxes to get up close and personal with these important creatures.
