Aurora Transportation Center, 233 North Broadway

Kane County sheriff’s detectives seized 4.67 pound of heroin Sunday at the Aurora Transportation Center and charged an Aurora man with three counts of heroin possession and trafficking.

According to a press release issued Wednesday afternoon by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, detectives arrested Victor Lechuga, 26, sometime after 1 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2015, and the Kane County States Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against him:

• Controlled substance trafficking, a class X felony.
• Manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, a class X felony.
• Possession of a controlled substance, a class X felony.

Kane County sheriff’s detectives were working a drug interdiction operation at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 North Broadway, when they intercepted a package that contained a large amount of heroin. The release said detectives allowed Lechuga to pick up the package at the Transportation Center, then take it to his residence at 743 Superior St. in Aurora. Detectives took Lechuga into custody at his residence and seized items in his possession, including 4.67 pounds of heroin, $7,600 in cash and a .22 caliber handgun.

The release said the heroin had a street value of $2.1 million.

Lechuga was transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center. His bond was set at $5 million, and his next court date is 9 a.m. June 24 in Room 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

This is the second significant case conducted by the Sheriff’s Office in the past two weeks. Last week, six individuals were charged in connection to a large-scale credit card fraud operation.

The charges against the Lechuga are not proof of guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
