A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Friday morning in Kane County.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of Illinois and Indiana, including Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle, Lake, Lee, Livingstong, McHenry, Ogle, Will and Winnegabo counties.

Thunderstorms will increase in coverage Thursday evening and overnight, with a very moist airmass in place and the potential for thunderstorms to trail over these areas.

Localized rain of 2 to 3 inches in a short period of time are possible.

Combined with the already saturated soil, runoff from excessive rainfall could result in flash flooding of low-lying and urban areas.

A Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, which can be very dangerous.

“Flash flooding may cause roads to be closed and impassible and cause rises on area rivers,” the NWS says.
