Flood Advisory for Fox River

Flood Advisory for Fox River

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Flood Advisory for the Fox River.

The advisory includes the Fox River at Algonquin Tailwater affecting Kane and McHenry counties, the Fox River at Montgomery affecting Kane and Kendall counties and the Fox River at Dayton affecting LaSalle County.

The advisory for the Fox River at Montgomery is in place until Friday evening.

A combination of heavy rainfall over the weekend and additional heavy rainfall today (Monday, June 15, 2015) and tonight may bring the Fox River above bankfull in some locations.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, the stage was 12.2 feet. Action stage is 12.5 feet and flood stage is 13.0 feet. The river will rise to near 12.8 feet by early Wednesday morning.

Kane County also is in a Flash Flood Advisory as of Monday. Because so much rain has fallen in the past 10 days, the ground is nearly saturated in many places, and additional rain could lead to immediate runoff and rapid flood, as well as quick stream and creek rises, the NWS said.
