The National Weather Service continues its Flood Warning Tuesday, June 16, 2015, after the heavy rains brought as much as 4.45 inches to Kane County. The Flood Warning continues for the Fox River at Montgomery until late Wednesday night.

As 9 a.m. Tuesday, the stage in Montgomery was 13.9 feet — almost a foot more than the flood stage of 13.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring Tuesday and in the forecast. The river is expected to hold steady around 13.9 feet before beginning a slow fall late Tuesday.

Jodie L. Wollnik, assistant director of the Kane County Environmental and Water Resources Division, told members of the Kane County Development Committee on Tuesday morning that the central part of Kane County recorded 2.86 inches of rain in 90 minutes Monday night.

The National Weather Service said “the heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches in the last 24 hours is resulting in rises on many streams in the area,” and Wollnik confirmed that Ferson Creek did rise over its banks in some places. (See the reader-submitted feature photo attached to this article.)

Wollnik told the Development Committee that water elevations were lower than during the flooding of April 2013 but said most of the detention facilities in central Kane County were full. “So when we did get precipitation, it was over-topping stormwater basins, and a lot were at capacity,” she said.

With more rain expected on Wednesday and Thursday, you might want to batten down the hatches and consider some preparedness actions. There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, a 50 percent chance of storms Wednesday night and a 40 percent chance of  storms Thursday, according to the NWS.
