Kane County’s first summertime food drive was a success by any measure.

Through the generosity of Kane County’s 1,300-plus employees, the hard work of the Human Resources Department and many organizers and the Kane County community at large, three huge bins of food and more than $3,738 was donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank during a brief check-passing event Tuesday in the auditorium of Building A at the Kane County Government Center.

This year’s effort, titled “Kane County Connects Employees With the Community,” moved from the holidays to the summertime, and its purpose was not only to raise money and food but to raise awareness that hunger affects our Kane County communities every year. The donations raised this year will benefit 29 area food pantries and will help subsidize a mobile food pantry.
