Take a Tour of Animal Control’s New Website!
Kane County Animal Control has a newly redesigned website, and it’s chock full o’ fresh and useful information.
It has a new look, a new organization and a new logo. Even the URL is different: “kanecountypets.com/” rather than “Kane County Animal Control” (which is probably too long) or “KCAC” (which probably isn’t recognizable to most folks — yet).
Part of the reason for the redesign is simple functionality. The old site looked old, frankly, and some of the materials hadn’t been updated in a long time. Another reason is what Kane County Animal Control Director Brett Youngsteadt described at Tuesday’s Public Health Committee as “rebranding.”
“It has to be a valuable asset and tool for the community,” he said. “Something like this is an important start.”
Kanecountypets.com is easy to navigate, and probably your best bet is just to go to the home page and start clicking on those words in the green bar at the top of the page, from”home” to “contact.”
That said, here’s a short guided tour of some of the highlights, posted here for your convenience. Click on the headers to go directly to that page.
View Animals
This page provides links to adoptable pets as well as lost pets. Powered by www.PetHarbor.com, this page is THE place to look for those adorable photos of adorable animals that you can fall in love with and take home or pets you can find, if yours has gone missing.
FAQ
I absolutely love this page. Youngsteadt’s team spent a lot of time collecting the most-asked questions and providing the right answers for residents. A few examples of the Q’s:
Fees
Another great page. Rabies fees, adoption fees, redemption fees, links for adoption applications — everything you need to know about dollars and cents.
Rabies
What is it? How’s it spread? What animals catch it? You get the idea.
Volunteer
Two things you need to know:
Classes
Did you know that Kane County Animal Conducts classes? Me neither. They’ll even come to your school or community center and introduce the children to various animal safety issues.
Vets

Wildlife
Sorry to gush, but I love this page, too. There are a ton of resources here, but the hottest of the hot topics is coyotes.
“If you do have a coyote in your yard, you can go over here and report it,” Youngsteadt said.

Contact
Hours, phone, locator map and email — what more do you need?
Probably what’s most impressive about the site is the quality of the content. The Animal Control staff worked very hard to put all this together, and the Kane County IT Department was awesome in making a design that easy to manage and easy for all of us to use and enjoy.
