Aurora Man Guilty of Sexually Abusing Young Child

An Aurora man awaits sentencing after he was convicted for sexually abusing a young child he knew.

Jeronimo Elizondo, 23, of the 800 block of Hill Avenue, Aurora, was convicted late Wednesday, July 15, 2015, by a Kane County jury, of three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, each a Class 2 felony.

The jury deliberated for about two hours before reaching the verdict.

Prosecutors presented evidence that between March 1, 2011, and April 30, 2012, Elizondo sexually abused a young child he knew. The victim was younger than 12 years old at the time of the abuse.

Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti set Elizondo’s next court appearance for 1 p.m. Aug. 28, 2015, for motions, and 1 p.m. Sept. 18, 2015, for sentencing in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center. Elizondo faces a sentence of probation or between three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

In addition, Elizondo must register for life in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

Elizondo remains free on $5,000 bond.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Nick Gaeke and Greg Sams.
