Aurora Woman Faces Possible Prison Term After Child Abuse Conviction
An Aurora woman could be sentenced to prison after being convicted of abusing a child that was in her care.
Guadalupe E. Dominguez, 42, of the 1600 block of North East Drive, Aurora, was convicted Monday, July 6, 2015, by Associate Judge Clint Hull of one count of aggravated battery to a child, a Class 2 felony, and battery, a Class A misdemeanor. Judge Hull heard the trial periodically between May 29 and June 30. Dominguez waived her right to a jury trial.
Prosecutors presented evidence that on Oct. 2, 2013, the victim, a 14-month-old male, was left in Dominguez’s care while the victim’s mother was at work. When the child was returned to the mother that evening, the mother noticed bruising and swelling on the child’s body and face. The mother took the child to the hospital. An emergency room physician suspected that the injuries were consistent with child abuse and contacted DCFS. The investigation revealed that the injuries were indeed the result of child abuse and that Dominguez knowingly inflicted the injuries.
Judge Hull set Dominguez’s next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 3, 2015, for motions and sentencing. Dominguez faces a sentence of probation or between three and seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In addition, Dominguez must register in accordance with Illinois’ Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registration Act.
Dominguez remains free on $1,000 bond.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys David Belshan and Lori Schmidt.
