The Forest Preserve District of Kane County seeks applicants to fill open positions.

Available positions include: preserve maintenance worker, safety health and training coordinator part-time, wildlife technician part-time, naturalist intern/seasonal, maintenance-field operations seasonal, campground attendant seasonal and trades seasonal.

The preserve maintenance worker will mow and maintain District open space areas; remove fallen trees/branches; insure proper maintenance of equipment and tools; assist ranger staff as required; collect and dispose of solid waste and litter from buildings and grounds; perform semi-skilled building and structural maintenance; and assist the public as needed. Must be 18 years of age or older. This position is limited to a 40 hour workweek and includes weekends, nights and holidays.

The part-time safety health and training coordinator will work closely with the Park District Risk Management Agency on the three-year loss control/risk management review; develop an accident prevention program; review accident/incident/illness data to note trends; develop and implement a health and wellness program; and other duties as assigned. The number of hours for this position are 1,040 per year, Monday – Friday, and may include weekends and some evenings.

The part-time wildlife technician assists with and conducts biological inventories; studies and researches both terrestrial and aquatic wildlife; collects data; and assists with the day to day operation of the District’s deer management program. This position is limited to 1,040 hours per year, as the workweek may vary, including weekends and holidays.

Naturalist intern/seasonals will work with the District’s naturalist staff to plan and conduct various nature programs. They will assist in teaching or leading activities, lead hikes and assist the naturalist staff with the daily operation of the Nature Center. Hours are typically 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Maintenance-field operations seasonals will help mow and maintain picnic areas, trails, parking lots and roadways; assist with maintenance and repair of buildings and structures; operate various hand and power landscape and construction equipment; and other custodial work. Hours may include shift work, early mornings, weekends and holidays.

Campground attendants will provide information and answer questions to campers and the public regarding camping and the District preserves. They will collect fees and operate the check-in station. Hours may include Sunday – Saturday, morning and afternoon shifts.

Trades seasonals assist tradesman in a variety of daily tasks. They perform semi-skilled building and structural maintenance and repair work; drive trucks and trailers; learn a variety of trades including carpentry, HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Hours are typically 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
