IDOT Plans Big Improvement to I-88 and Route 47 Intersection — And You Can Have Input
It’s called the “Sugar Grove Parkway Interchange at I-88,” and if it moves forward, it has the potential to be a major-league improvement to regional transportation in the Sugar Grove area.
Now you can weigh in on the project — and learn more about it — at an July 29 public meeting on the Waubonsee Committee College campus, which just happens to be located at the southern terminus of the proposed project.
The meeting will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, in the Academic and Professional Center Event Room of Waubonsee Community College, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive in Sugar Grove. Organizers suggest you use the north entrance to the campus.
The village of Sugar Grove in partnership with Kane County, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Illinois Tollway is formally inviting you to attend the public meeting regarding the planning for the potential improvements to the IL Route 47 (Sugar Grove Parkway) interchange at I-88 (Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway) in Kane County.
At the meeting you will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about the planning process, schedule, and public participation opportunities.
- Give your input on transportation issues and concerns within the study area.
- Talk with the project team and ask any questions.
This is expected to be the first in a series of public meetings on the interchange.

Overview
Illinois Route 47 (IL 47) was recently designated as Sugar Grove Parkway in Sugar Grove, Illinois. The study area on IL 47 extends from Old Oaks Drive/Waubonsee Drive (the northern Waubonsee Community College Entrance) to Green Road, for a length of approximately 2.2 miles. The Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) will be studied approximately 3,000 feet east and west of IL 47 for a length of approximately 1.1 miles. The proposed project is located within the Village of Sugar Grove and unincorporated Sugar Grove and Blackberry Townships in southern Kane County.
More About the Project
The village of Sugar Grove initiated this Phase I study as a step toward providing a full-access interchange that will improve connectivity to the interstate network. The interchange and this stretch of IL Route 47 has been the subject of a number of planning documents and studies by a number of agencies over the past decade.

Stakeholder Involvement Plan
A key goal of CSS is to build general understanding amongst the stakeholders. A CSS “stakeholder” is any person or organization which has a direct stake in the project being considered. CSS stakeholder activities include Community Advisory Group (CAG) meetings, Community Context Audit surveys, special interest groups meetings, and public meetings as well as a public hearing.
All input will be evaluated and used to help shape viable solutions. It is essential for the process to be fair and for all people’s opinions to be heard and considered. CSS project approach enhances public participation in the transportation planning processBecause stakeholder involvement is critical to the planning process for this project, a Stakeholder Involvement Plan (SIP) was developed to guide the stakeholder involvement program.
The SIP outlined a program that effectively involves stakeholders, while conforming to federal and state guidelines. The SIP describes a framework that is both comprehensive and flexible based on the project’s needs. The SIP is used as a blueprint for defining methods and tools to educate and engage all stakeholders in the decision-making process.
