Kane County welcomed a new board member Tuesday to fill the vacancy created by in May by the resignation of Ron Ford.

The new District 6 board member, appointed and sworn in on Tuesday, July 14, is Brian W. Dahl, a resident of North Aurora and the director of membership services for the Painters District Council No. 30 in Aurora.

Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen said he selected Dahl because of the skill sets and experience he brings to the board. Lauzen said four candidates were interviewed for the interim position, and County Board member participation was encouraged in the process.

“All four of the candidates had outstanding credentials,” Lauzen said. “(But) I am delighted to make this appointment and ask your consent. They are big shoes to fill in Ron Ford’s case.”

Lauzen emphasized Dahl’s experience as a board and institutional leader and an active member of the community.

Dahl has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Baltimore and a bachelor of arts degree from the National Labor College, George Meany Center for Labor Studies. He has 15 years of fiduciary experience, which includes all facets of government, including investment strategy, selection of providers for employee benefits, auditing and legal affairs, regulatory compliance and risk management.

His pubic service includes present and past stints on the board of directors of Fox Valley United Way, the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Aurora Area Girls Softball league, where he also managed and coached. He coached Aurora Boys Baseball in 1994, and boys and girls basketball at Annunciation BMV School. He serves as an usher, Eucharistic minister and and member of the Athletic Committee of Annunciation BMV church.

Dahl will serve the balance of Ford’s term, which ends in December 2016.

“It’s a little less than 18 months of service,” Lauzen said. “After that, it will be decided by the voters, as it should be. In the interim, we have the privilege of working with Mr. Dahl, who has extensive experience.”

Kane County’s District 6 includes parts of Aurora and North Aurora. A map of the district boundaries is published below.
