A 54-year-old Aurora man died Thursday, July 30, 2015, after he tried to make a U-turn on his motorcycle and was hit by a large commercial truck.

According to an Aurora Police Department press release, Bradley L. Stein, 54, of the 1700 block of Pinnacle Dr., Aurora, was hit by a 2003 Mack Tilt hand truck driven by a 44-year old-Ottawa, IL man at around 7:10 a.m. on Butterfield Road (Route 56) about 800 feet west of Hedge Row Drive.

Witnesses told police Stein was trying to make the U-turn from eastbound Butterfield Road to westbound Butterfield Road, and his motorcycle appeared to have mechanical difficulty just before it collided with the truck.

Stein was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center by Aurora Fire Department paramedics, then flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead at 10:05 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was not a factor. Stein was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. There were no tickets issued to the truck driver. An autopsy will not be performed.

Butterfield Road was closed between Eola Road and Farnsworth Avenue for about four hours while Aurora Police Department traffic investigators reconstructed the crash. The crash remains under investigation, according to the press release.
