New WhyKane.Org Promotes Jobs, Business, Community
Hopefully, by now you’ve had a chance to see Kane County Animal Control’s new website, which has not only a new look but a lot of bells and whistles that can help you find information you want and need about animals and pets in this county of 527,306 people.
Now comes another new Kane County web page, this one aimed at promoting jobs, businesses and Kane County communities.
What’s interesting is that whykane.org doesn’t so much try to reinvent the wheel as to show you where to find it. The page provides important information in the three categories of Jobs, Business and Community.
As with any website, it’s probably most productive and easiest to just go exploring with the click of a mouse, but here are a few things I noticed and liked in a quick tour.
Business
So, in the first paragraph of this article, how did we know there are 527,306 people in Kane County? That’s the number as of 2014 as reported in the U.S. Census QuickFacts page for Kane County, which we found under the BUSINESS category on whykane.org.
Under this category, you can find links to every Kane County chamber of commerce.
You can find more information and links regarding Kane County impact fees,
You can find financial resources, like the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, how to get on board with the Metro Chicago Exports grant program or where to go to find assistance to start up or enhance your small business.
There are also links to help you Develop Your Workforce.
Jobs
Need a job? Under the JOBS category on whykane.org, there are all kinds of tools to help you find one that’s right for you.
For example, you can find the prevailing wage rate for Kane County jobs, from brick mason to tuckpointer. If you’re a teacher looking for a job, you can find one at the Kane County Human Resources Consortium website, organized by position, by district or all in one.
If you need training, the Kane County Department of Employment and Education site is a great place to look. Seniors hoping for training or a job can find help in the Senior Community Service Employment Program.
Community
Under the COMMUNITY category, you can find a Guide to Community Services, which is a one-stop shop to find social service agencies throughout Kane County.
Looking to Buy Your First Home, How to Find Help if You Know Someone at Risk of Being Homeless? There are links to the Kane County Office of Community Reinvestment that can be of the utmost help.
On the community page, you can find everything from recreational opportunities like Kane County Bike Paths to health alerts from the Kane County Health Department.
More to Come
As the site develops, you can expect upgrades, Jobs Committee Co-Chair Becky Gillam said.
“Get on there and use it,” she said. “All of your input is very important to us”
