UPDATE: Missing Elgin Township Man Is Found, ‘Expected to Survive’
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office reports that Daniel Yohnke, the 64-year-old Elgin Township man reported missing Monday, has been found as of Tuesday afternoon.
“We are happy to let everyone know we have found Mr. Yohnke. A local resident spotted him near the edge of a wooded area. He has been transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive,” Kane County Lt. Pat Gengler said via Facebook.
“Again, thank you to everyone who took the time to share the post and spread the word. It is reassuring to know that when we need to get the word out about a situation there are so many people willing to help.”
In a Tuesday afternoon press release, Gengler said a resident on Lisa Lane in Elgin Township called the Sheriff’s Office at around 2:50 p.m. to report that she found Yohnke in her back yard. He was lying on the ground near the edge of her property near the heavily wooded area. Deputies are not sure as to the reason why he left the house without notifying his family.
Sheriff Don Kramer thanked the search team volunteers and emergency responders who assisted in this search, and the public for helping to get the word out.
“This is a great example of the public and emergency responders working together to try to help someone in need,” the press release said.
Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies asked for the public’s assistance in locating Yohnke, who was reported missing by his wife in the early morning of Monday, July 13, 2015.
“It is believed that Daniel walked away from the family home on Peppertree Lane in Elgin Township,” Gengler had said in a Monday press release. “Daniel is believed to be on foot somewhere in the immediate Elgin Township area.”
KSCO deputies and K9 units searched the area but were unable to locate him. The Kane County Office of Emergency Management helped with the search.
