We can’t promise you’ll see a light show like the one featured recently on CBS Sunday Morning, but as far as local firefly action, you can’t do better than what’s coming up in Campton Hills.

If you’ve ever wondered how a glow worm glows, or why a lightning bug lights, or if a firefly light is hot to the touch, you’ll have answers to those questions and more during the Firefly Fireworks program at Campton Forest Preserve. Lightning bugs and glow worms are not only beautiful when lit up, but also an important part of the prairie ecosystem. The walk will start at dusk, and you will see the nighttime magic begin as thousands of fireflies rise from the prairie.

The program is from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Campton Forest Preserve. All ages are welcome!
