34th Annual Historic Elgin House Tour Is Sept. 12
One of the great parts of living in historic Kane County, IL, is the variety of architecture, in styles that can change almost neighborhood by neighborhood. In celebration of historic homes, the Gifford Park Association will hold its 34th Annual Historic House Walk Tour on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, in Elgin.
Each year, the House Tour features a different historic neighborhood of Elgin. In 2014, the tour featured the Spring/Douglas Historic District. This year, it’s the NE neighborhood around River Bluff and Cedar. Click here for pictures of the houses featured this year.
The Annual Historic Elgin House Tour is an educational event that offers something for everyone. There’s architecture, history, home remodeling, interior decorating, gardening and more. The interior tours of the homes are guided and interpreted. The houses can be toured in any order. If you participate, wear comfortable shoes and allow yourself the full day to see all of the homes.
Advance Tickets are available at advance locations, by mail and online at a reduced rates. Tickets are also available at registration at the Church of the Brethren General Offices, 1451 Dundee Avenue, Elgin, IL 60120. Tickets at this location are the day of the tour only. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the tour going from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Advance tickets are $15; day-of-tour tickets are $20.
Children 12 years old and under and seniors over age 65 are $10 in advance and the day of the tour. Cash and checks only are accepted at registration – sorry, no credit cards.

About the GPA
The Gifford Park Association (GPA) is a not-for-profit organization that was founded in 1979. The goal of GPA is the revitalization, enhancement and preservation of Elgin’s Historic homes and public buildings with a focus in the Elgin Historic District.
The neighborhood is located in the oldest portions of the city of Elgin, Illinois, and is oddly shaped and roughly bound by Park Street on the north, Center Street/Villa Court on the west, Villa Street on the south, and Liberty Street on the east. GPA has made great strides in preserving Elgin’s Historic past and actively works to continue that effort. Our members are enthusiastic and proud to show off both their own homes and those of others. Hence, Elgin’s Historic House Tour began. Now in its 34th year, the house tour attendance averages 1,000 people annually. Elgin rallies behind this event every year as all of our GPA members, city officials, and residents gather together to make this one of Elgin’s finest events.
