A Carpentersville man has been sent to prison for attempting to sexually assault a young child he knew.

Juan C. Cuello-Calderon, 26, of the 100 block of Madera Circle, Carpentersville, was sentenced late Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, by Associate Judge Clint Hull, to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Cuello-Calderon was convicted June 16, 2015, by a Kane County jury of attempted criminal sexual assault, a Class 2 felony, and attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 3 felony.

Prosecutors presented evidence that at about 11:30 p.m. July 21, 2014, Cuello-Calderon went into the victim’s bedroom where the victim was in bed, got on top of the victim, forcibly removed her clothing and attempted to touch the victim in her genital area. The victim was able to kick Cuello-Calderon away, and then the victim’s mother came into the room asked what had just happened. The victim was younger than 18 years old.

In addition, Judge Hull agreed with a request by prosecutors to keep a no-contact order in place for two years beyond the completion of Cuello-Calderon’s two-year period of mandatory supervised release (parole) that begins upon his release from prison.

Cuello-Calderon must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

According to Illinois law, Cuello-Calderon is eligible for day-for-day credit. He was given credit for at least 389 days served in the Kane County jail.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Whitfield and Megan Baxter.
