CASA Conference Features Top Expert on Personality Disorders
CASA Kane County is hosting a powerful educational conference from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Pheasant Run in St. Charles.
The conference centerpiece is guest speaker Gregory W. Lester, PhD., arguably the foremost expert in his field, who will speak on “Personality Disorders and the DSM-5”
The informative conference helps volunteers, agencies and related healthcare organizations to better understand the important work that needs to be done for our children and families. Among the professionals who will get the most out of the conference are medical professionals, school administrators and nonprofit staffers.
A special rate of $60 for the community includes breakfast and lunch. The rate of CASA/GAL volunteers is discounted to $25, and continuing education credits are available.

About “Personality Disorders and the DSM-5”
Although widely acknowledged to be the most difficult of all mental health conditions, few professionals are properly trained to assess and intervene in cases involving personality disorders. These disorders are almost always the driving force behind stalled treatment; stressful and frustrating case management; and confusing, resistive, and seemingly unmanageable clients. Unless practitioners understand how personality disorders are unique, and learn the specific methods that are required to treat and manage them, their effectiveness will be sharply diminished and the stress caused by this clientele will be unnecessarily high.
This seminar is the long-anticipated DSM-5® update of the longest running, largest attended seminar on personality disorders in the world (formerly titled “Personality Disorders in Social Work and Health Care”). The revised seminar features an updated and expanded intervention section; the DSM-5® diagnostic changes; and the most current and comprehensive information available about the identification, treatment, and management of personality disorders.
Designed for practitioners who know very little about the phenomenon as well as those with highly developed assessment and intervention skills, attendees gain new understanding of the phenomenon and acquire powerful interventions for the management and treatment of their most difficult and frustrating cases.
Dr. Lester Bio
Gregory W. Lester, PhD, is a clinical and consulting psychologist with practices in Texas and Colorado. Dr. Lester is widely considered to have trained more professionals on the topic of personality disorders than any other individual, with more than 125,000 professionals attending his trainings in 130 cities across the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
He is the author and presenter of the largest attended and longest running seminar on personality disorders, and his office served as one of the first research sites for the development of the proposed revision for the personality disorders section of the DSM-5®.
Dr. Lester has served on the graduate faculty of The University of St. Thomas and holds membership in the American Psychological Association, the Texas Psychological Association, the Colorado Psychological Association, and Phi Beta Kappa. He has received the coveted Nemecek Award for Outstanding Service to Families and was named Volunteer of the Year by the Parent Aide Network.
