Presence Health, the largest Catholic health care system in Illinois and operator of two hospitals in Kane County, announced the selection of Michael Englehart as the new president and CEO.

Englehart begins the new job Oct. 1 and replaces Sandra Bruce, who is retiring after seven years leading Presence Health and one of its predecessors, Resurrection Health Care. Presence Health has more than 150 sites of care, including Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

Englehart brings nearly 20 years of healthcare experience to Presence Health, including more than a decade at Advocate Health Care. Most recently, Englehart served as president of Advocate Physician Partners, leading the health care system’s clinically integrated network of 4,900 physicians and 13 hospitals.

“With his proven track record of developing and implementing transformational strategies, establishing clinical alliances and strategic partnerships, and fostering collaboration to create highly integrated models of care, he has the experience, leadership and vision to successfully lead the transformational strategies we have embraced at Presence Health,” said Guy Wiebking, chair of the Presence Health Board. “Sandra Bruce created a solid foundation to position Presence Health for success in the new healthcare landscape. We believe that he will be able to build upon these successes to take Presence Health to the next level.”

Sister Mary Elizabeth Imler, chair of the Corporate Member, which represents Presence Health’s five sponsoring religious congregations, said Englehart’s strong background in Catholic and faith-based healthcare, and commitment to remaining true to the mission and values of the organization were critical factors in his selection.

“It is very important that our leadership is strongly committed to ensuring a sustainable future for the ministry of Catholic health care in Illinois and to providing healing and hope in the communities we serve,”she said.

Englehart said looks forward to helping Presence Health make on impact on the Kane County communities its serves.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead an innovative, Catholic-sponsored health system such as Presence Health,” he said.

Englehart resides in Palos Heights with his wife and children.
